About MHA
The Marietta Housing Authority (MHA) was created on May 9, 1938, by the Mayor and City Council of Marietta, Georgia. It was formed under Georgia law to provide safe, affordable housing. On the same day, the City of Marietta and the Housing Authority signed an agreement that explains how they work together. That agreement still guides their relationship today.
The Mayor appointed the first five members of the Board of Commissioners in 1938. Each member served a different starting term, but all later appointments last five years. The first Chairman was T. C. Branson Jr.
In its early years, the Housing Authority hired architects, engineers, and legal advisors. The Board selected sites and began planning public housing.
During World War II, there was a strong need for housing for factory workers. The federal government built temporary housing near the Bell Bomber Plant.
Today, the Marietta Housing Authority continues its mission of providing affordable housing and supporting community revitalization.
